There are some beautiful roses in bloom around our neighborhood and it got me to thinking that I should really aim to stop and smell the roses more -- both literally and figuratively.
I find I can easily get caught up in the everyday *dailyness* of mothering and sometimes forget to stop and savor the moment...a beautiful, simple, magical moment to cherish with my children.
So this week's challenge is to seek out these beautiful moments among the busyness of our days, sniff them in, and find joy in the simple.
Hi Kerry, we met today at the playgroup at Arsenal, but didn't get to talk much. I've read your blog before and liked it, and I completely concur with this post. I was reminded of the same thing today when Isabelle was just lying in the grass looking at the sky. I have to be reminded every week or so it seems, and I only have one child so far, so I can't even imagine three yet. I'm very impressed. Looking forward to talking more next time we meet!
ReplyDeleteI decided to take the time to walk my middle daughter home from her class. It was so strange just walking with one and I saw some beautiful roses in bloom and thought the EXACT same thing yesterday! "Stop and smell the roses." We both stopped and took that moment to take in the fragrance and truly enjoy just "being"....doesn't happen too often anymore in my busy household. I think if we don't do it, our kids stop remembering how, too, once they get busier with their own lives...just my personal experience now that my oldest is 7 and doing more complex activities. I am proud of him, and so relieved that he has "skills" but it's quite a feat to balance the accomplishment of tasks with the satisfaction of just "being"....
ReplyDeleteTatiana, it was nice meeting you too! I hope we can chat more in the following weeks when I am not chasing after my two-year-old! I glanced at your lovely blog and look forward to reading more! -Kerry
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I love your point about how our kids could stop remembering to enjoy the moment unless we make an effort to prioritize these special times. Thanks for visiting! -Kerry
